PEOPLE’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Tendai Biti has called on the people of Zimbabwe to protect the legacy of the late MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai by winning the 2018 elections.
Biti likened the late Tsvangirai to the Biblical Moses who took the children of Israel out of Egypt but could not cross into Canaan, adding that the onus is now on the remaining leadership to ensure the dream is fulfilled.
Addressing MDC-T who had gathered at Harvest House to bid farewell to their leader, Biti said this time people of Zimbabwe must enter into the Promised Land.
“Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai has played his part; we that have been left behind let’s protect his legacy.
“Together with this young man (Nelson Chamisa) behind me here when 2018 elections come in July let’s ensure we fulfil the dream of Morgan Tsvangirai and take people of Zimbabwe to the promised land.
“The journey of our Moses has ended here. Our role is now to take Zimbabwe to Canaan and this time come July we will enter new Zimbabwe.
Tsvangirai died last week on Wednesday after battling with colon cancer and his body is set to be buried in Buhera next to his first wife Susan.

His death is a huge blow to the opposition’s chances in the impending elections as he was regarded as the only person capable of giving fair completion to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Tsvangirai had been president of MDC since its inaugural in Chitungwiza in 2000 and the biggest achievement of his political career came in 2008 when he defeated then President of the country Robert Mugabe although he could not get enough to be declared President.
He was however made Prime Minister in 2009 following the formation of the Inclusive Government whose tenure ended in July 2013.
