National Development Strategy to accelerate economic growth

GOVERNMENT has approved the National Development Strategy (NDS) 1 2021-2025 that is set to accelerate, high, inclusive, broad-based, and sustainable economic growth and development, Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa, said during a Post Cabinet briefing on Tuesday.
She said the Minister of Finance and Economic Development Professor Mthuli Ncube presented the NDS1 which is the government’s first of two 5-year Medium – Term blueprints running under the theme, “Towards a Prosperous and Empowered Upper Middle Income Society by 2030.
“The National Development Strategy 1 outlines the policies, legal and institutional reforms, programmes, and projects for identified National Priorities that will be implemented over the Strategy’s five-year lifespan.”
“The Strategy succeeds the Transitional Stabilisation Programme (TSP): 2018-2020, which focused on inter-alia stabilizing the macro-economy and the financial sector, and thus laid the foundation required for economic growth,” she said.
The government spokesperson said NDS1’s thrust is to enhance macroeconomic stability through stabilizing and reducing inflation, stable exchange rate to achieve sustainable, inclusive and equitable economic growth.
Other objectives include new enterprise development, employment and job creation, strengthening of social infrastructure and social safety nets, promoting good governance and corporate social investment and modernizing and industrializing the economy.
