THE Introduction of new international flights directly into Victoria Falls following the refurbishment of the Vic Falls airport has seen an unprcedented uptake of space in most hotels in the resort town, a top tourism executive has said.
Rainbow Tourism Group (RTG) chief excutive officer Tendai Madziwanyika told an analyst briefing this morning that Victoria Falls was under pressure from foreign tourists owing to increased number of seats.
“We project that because of the increased number of seats into the destination we believe that foreign business in Vic Falls will outspace availability of space. In fact if you are to book or to make an enquiry today, you might not get a room because there no space.
“Vic Falls is increasingly under pressure 80 000 new seats has gone into the Vic Falls this year alone. In terms of Hubs, the main hub for Africa was OR Thambo but now the Victoria Falls has become an easy destination to access due to new flights as a result of the expansion. Vic Falls is a growing business and we are exited about it,” said Madziwanyika.
Meanwhile, Ethiopian Airlines and a number of new airlines commenced flights into Vic Falls this year while Rwandan, Kenyan and Turkhish airlines also regsiterd intrest in flyin directly into the resort town.
The Victoria Falls airport is poised to attract increased air traffic after it underwent a $150 million facelift which increased passenger handling capacity to 1,5 million per year, up from 500 000.
Some of the new features of the Victoria Falls International airport include an international terminal building, a four kilometer runway and control tower, road networks and a new fire station.
